Meet The Artists and Songwriters

TOMMY YOUNG, "EVERYBODY LOVES A COWBOY"
songwriters:  Brett Coker & Hugh Cline
You're probably asking how an English dude became a fan of the all-American music genre of country-western music. Growing up in  England, I never imagined that one day I'd love country music so much that I'd be performing and recording it! I was born in  Helensburgh, Scotland where there was little hope of hearing any American country music on the radio or telly. While still a toddler our  family moved to Huddersfield, England. Huddersfield is a small farming town way north of London, in Yorkshire - land of Jane Eyre,  misty moors and werewolves. About as far from Nashville as one can get. My teen years were spent much like a typical youth of the  day, going to discos at night and collecting the records by English rockers like Slade, The Sweet, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Queen,  Shawaddywaddy and Mud. The local discos, "The Starlite" and "Hi-Fi" were great places to also hear the newest mix of dance music  that included Bonnie Tyler, The Osmonds, The Bee Gees, and all the latest imports from the U.S. But, alas, not a note of country  music was to be heard throughout Yorkshire. Though on TV I did regularly view the American westerns such as "The High Chaparral"  and "Bonanza" and became drawn to the romance and legends of the American west. One day when I was about 14, an older couple  from the neighborhood announced their departure for an around the world cruise. Somehow, for some reason, this idea caught my  imagination and became my obsession. By the time I was twenty-one, after living for a few years in London, this dream came true and  I did travel the world and visited over seventy countries (and I'm still on a journey!) It was on that trip that I first visited America and had  my first taste of country music. I was amazed at the variety of country artists that were Super-Stars in the USA that I had hardly heard  about. Some of the first country artists that I fell in love with were Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and Dan Seals.

JASMUN BASILONE / CHARLEY AUSTIN, "MOCKINGBIRD"
Jasmun Leah Basilone, an 18 year old singer from Sylacauga, AL is well on her way to taking country music by storm! This rising artist  began singing at the early age of 2 ½ when she first learned to talk! Her talent and passion for music comes from her Mother's side of  the family and there was always music in her home growing up. Jasmun also enjoys dancing which she incorporates into her shows.  "She really keeps the house shaking," says her mother, Ruth Basilone. Some of Jasmun's favorite artists include Crystal Gayle and  Shania Twain. This young singer recently received an Upcoming Artist Award at the Christian Country Music Award convention this  past Nov. and has two nominations under her belt for the AGAPE awards. She was also nominated for the Youth in Music category for  the Inspirational Country Music Awards this past November.  Jasmun has been a very busy young artist entertaining all across the USA  and continues to do so. Her songs have been heard all the way to Mexico and over to Iraq.

GINA MICHAELLS, "WILD HORSE", and "JESUS HEARD EVERY WORD"
Gina Michaells gets her musical inspiration from a background that is just as unusual as she is herself. As she grew up in the  Mountains of La Union in the Philippines, she would spend the evening together with the other kids, listening to the only radio in the  village, enjoying the broadcast from the nearby American Airbase. Gina was mesmerized by the voices of great stars such as Patsy  Cline, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. This influenced her in a way that can easily be found back in her music,  performances and singing today. The sound of her voice has an honest, genuine devotion, that will take you back to the early days of  country music.

JOYMARIE GOODMAN, "RAISING THE PRICE OF GAS"
Songwriters: JoyMarie Goodman, Rhonnie Scheuerman & Bill Marks
Joy's shows are lively, fun, fast-paced, energetic, and exciting. She has a contagious smile and boundless energy that has the crowd  on its feet, clapping and glad they came. You will be impressed with her presence and fall in love with her style. Whether it is one of  her own creations or one carefully chosen for her by her producer, every song she sings has her style and flair. She is professional,  warm, enthusiastic and dedicated to her music and her fans. JoyMarie and Bill have a great new video put together. RAISING THE  PRICE OF GAS is a funny light hearted way of looking at the rising price of gas with the hopes officials will see it and realize what they are doing to Americans.

JASON HUNKAPILLER, "ZACH'S SONG"
Jason Hunkapiller started singing in church at the church that his papa pastored. I have been singing at local events for several years. I  occassionally travel to Nashville, TN to sing at clubs. I have not been in the past year due to my boys' having bone marrow transplants.  I have been traveling back and forth from South GA to Duke Univ. in Durham, NC to be with them. Years ago I wrote a song for my  boys' who were born with Chronic Granulomatus Disease. In "Zach's Song", I wanted to help others see life through the eyes of my  sick little boys. Thanks to medical advances and research, boys have been cured of CGD with bone marrow transplants. They are  struggling to overcome the effects the transplants on their bodies. I promised them when they are home and well, I will write a sequel  to "Zach's Song".

RON THOMPSON, "REDNECK PREACHER MAN"
Songwriter James Ronald Thompson, BMI
Published by Treed Lion Music
This bluegrass/country gospel all acoustic instrument song is "laid back" and written as a tribute to Ron's real life "redneck" great-great  grandfather, who was a Baptist preacher during the Civil War era. The term redneck came about because the Scottish people wore  red scarfs around their necks, hence they were called "rednecks". Ron's great-great grandfather was a real world "redneck" because  he was a direct descendant from Scottish immigrant William Thomson, who migrated to America about 1685 due to religious  persecution by King Charles II and King James II of England. The descendants of William Thomson included a multitude of ministers,  carpenters and farmers. They sang and played instruments of the original hillbilly music brought with them from Scotland.

KIMBERLY BIBB-MARRS, "BLACK AND WHITE RAG" (with Marty Stuart & Larry Marrs)
Kimberly grew up in Maryland Heights Missouri. Her Grandpa Jewel Bibb taught her how to play fiddle at 9 years old. She soon started  competing in fiddle contests around the region. One of the contests was judged by Kenny Baker and Josh Graves who gave her first  place.  She was very successful at winning most of the contest fiddling. Her parents literally had a room full of trophies and plaques  when she was a kid.  At age 11 she won the Nashville Talent Search held in Brazil Indiana. The outcome of that was a 45 single with  Bunky Keels on Piano, D. J. Fontana on drums, Elvis' first drummer, Bruce Watkins on guitar, now plays on all Alan Jacksons hits ,  Duke Dumas on bass.  The single charted at its peak at number 18 in Billboard , called Country Fever  A side and Grandpas fiddle  and bow. They performed as Kimberly Dawn and The Bibb Family Band, which were Gary and Carol Bibb, Jewel Bibb- Grandpa-  Uncle Mark Bibb, Tammy Bibb now Camenzind, also Tom, Danny, Joe, Gene, Wayne, and the great  Bobby Minner,  who works with  Tim Mcgraw. For several years they performed shows across the country including, The St. Louis V P fair, The Georgia Mountain Fair  theater in Hiawassee, Six flags over America and The Fox Theater in St Louis MO, The American Theater, West Port Plaza  Playhouse, Hershey Park PA, and  many more. During this time when she wasnt working with the Bibb Family, she was also playing  with a local bluegrass group called Joe Rapisardo and Country Side Grass, which played bluegrass festivals in Mo. , IL. , Iowa, and  elsewhere. While with this group she received a SPGMA award for fiddle.

RON KAMMER, "THANK YOU JESUS"
When I was in high school we took a vocational aptitude test to see in what three professions we would best be suited. Mine turned  out to be preacher, musician, and farmer. As you might imagine, I was the laughing stock of my entire class. I wasn't a Christian at the  time, not involved in any music programs, and I most certainly wasn't interested in farming. So, I just laughed it off with everyone else.  After serving in the military I was married then got saved, and since then have served as an usher, Sunday school teacher, layman  preacher, nursing home minister, writing and singing songs in local churches and nursing homes. Now I feel the Lord is calling me to  share my music beyond the local level. My wife and I have been married for 35 years, and I can truly say that I have been blessed.

RGB for short, has its roots in many styles of music. Greetings Andrew, just this morning l arrived at work and volume 803 was in today’s mail. I really like to see those bright yellow envelopes and your logo for l know that l am about to hear some real Country, real Bluegrass and some real Gospel. The thing with your music is that it is so un-pretentious and real, no need for overdone too slick music. I find much of today’s Country has lost the Country and is all about image, sought of like a Country MTV, if that makes sense. I am extremely happy to have received this as l am with all of your post outs. As for allocation, simple because l will place your cd with the cities longest running, (23 years), and most popular Country show “Acid Country” with David Heard, Thursday 3 to 5pm. Once again Andrew a sincere thank-you from all of your friends down here in Melbourne Australia…..Regards  DJ Peter Merrett,  PBS 106.7 FM
